In my twenties, I was very athlectic. I played sports and participated in martial arts along with just being more active in general. As I entered my thirties, life got in the way and I didn't get to the dojo as often and sat on my butt for 8-10 hours a day with a job in front of a computer. That's how everything started going downhill, or should I say, spread out.
But, the most important reason for me to try to get back in good health is the death of my mother. She passes away March 18, 2014 of kidney and congestive heart failure due to diabeties and colon cancer. Her struggle was for almost a year and caused much strain on the family as a whole. Watching her health deteriorate in that last year of her life really started me thinking about where I want my health to be when I get older.
I made a promise to myself to be healthy into my more mature self. Even though I do not feel "old", my body is starting to lose the bounce it once had. Starting to feel "sore" in places that shouldn't be sore. Just the wear and tear of an almost 40 year old body. This year, I am 37, turning 38 in a few more months. My mother died at age 55, that's not too far off for me to make sure that I am in good health.
So, now you know, that's how all this was kicked off.
